How big does the head have to be in the frame?
Between 27 mm and 34 mm from the chin to the top of the head. The two dashed lines on the crop are placed at that measurement, so lining the face up with them puts the head inside the accepted range.
Does this replace the background?
No, and that is deliberate. Automatic background removal cuts into hair and ears, and a photo with a chewed outline is rejected on sight. Take the photo against a plain wall instead. Pure white or a bright off-white, even across the whole frame. Grey, cream and yellow are rejected.
Does it meet the upload size limit as well?
Yes, and that is the part most tools miss. Japan visa photo uploads are rejected on file WEIGHT as well as dimensions — this one wants under 120 KB. The photo is encoded to land inside that window at the exact pixel size required, and the result tells you whether it did.
Can I print these at home or at a shop?
